First Team Truro 1 v Newquay 2 Newquay 2 travelled to Truro for this rearranged fixture with Truro hoping to gain maximum points to keep in touch with early season leaders Bodmin. Pete Madsen played Newquay’s Mark Priem. This has been a close match in the past but Pete clearly showed the improvements he has made on the squash court to sweep aside his opponent 3-0, dropping only 1 point during the entire match. Pete has clearly shown he wants to improve his squash and his team mates better watch out! Elliott Moore for Truro was to play the clever Glen Mesney – Glen’s style of play enabling him to pick up any loose shots with devastating effect, running Elliott ragged at the front of the court. Newquay were soon 2-0 up, Glen winning the first two games 9-3 9-0 before Elliott started to battle hard to stay in contention. Elliott’s squash was by no means textbook but it proved effective to win the next 3 games, a 3-2 win for Truro. Truro’s Neil Counter game against Mark Watterton for Newquay was interesting for their conflicting styles – Neil can run & run whereas Mark plays exceptional shots. It was Neil who was in control to win 3-0, Mark forced to make errors by Neil’s ability to recover seemingly winning shots. The battle at number 1 between Luke Vaggers for Truro and Damien May of Newquay was a fabulous match. Damien took an early lead in the first game and despite game point was unable to capitalise allowing Luke back into it to snatch the game 10-8. Damien struggled in the second with Luke winning comfortably. The third game followed a similar format to the first with Damien in control and leading before allowing Luke back into it and again the Truro player won the game. The 3-0 win for Truro could so easily have been different. Truro won the match 15-2 to maintain their 100% record this season. Truro now have 58 points from a maximum of 60 in their first 4 matches so far this season after Falmouth cancelled their recent match.
